INDIGO GIRLS — Limited Ed. Screenprint — Tarrytown, NY
The inspiration here comes from 1915, when this same venue hosted the “Cotton Ball” a huge rally for the Suffragette movement sponsored by the Tarrytown Equal Franchise Association.
I chose the goddess Libertas, a figure often used as an image of the Suffrage movement. I depict her as more of a “fierce warrior” with the spear planted in defiance, and her classic torch nearly extinguished. It’s a fascinating period of history and sadly, still timely.
